Root Reserve on BYU
This should be an excellent matchup to get the Sweet 16 action started on Thursday night. From a sports betting perspective, I’m going to take the points with BYU in this one. I really haven’t been impressed with Alabama as of late. They barely snuck by #15 Robert Morris (90-81) in the first round, and the Tide are now just 6-5 SU in their last 11 games. Mostly, it’s their defense that’s an issue for me. Alabama is a pedestrian 29th in adjusted defensive efficiency, allowing 96.6 points per 100 possessions. In the tournament, the Cougars are averaging 85 points per game. They are shooting the ball at a shade under fifty percent, 49.5 percent. The Cougars are hitting their threes at a 40.5 percent rate and have hit 9.5 three-point field goals per game. With BYU’s high-octane offense, I think they’ll manage to keep it within two possessions. The Cougars are on an excellent 11-1 SU stretch, which includes five ranked wins against AP top 25 teams. I’ll back BYU.
