St. Louis is coming off a 1-6 roadtrip and while it returns home where it has been much better at 8-4, the pitching that had been lights out during the recent homestand has regressed and mostly from the bullpen whose ERA is 8.31 over the last week plus which is worst in baseball. Matthew Liberatore has put up two straight quality starts after a poor start in Pittsburgh and is now laying his biggest number of the season through four starts. The Brewers blew a chance for a series split in San Francisco as a dropped fly ball in the eighth inning led to a Giants comeback win and Milwaukee is back down to .500 on the season, putting it three games behind the Cubs. They catch the Cardinals at a good time and at a good price as they send Chad Patrick to the hill who has looked good through his first four starts. He is coming off his first quality outing and overall he has a 1.33 ERA and 1.23 WHIP covering 21.1 innings. Play (955) Milwaukee Brewers 3-0 Thursday. 2-0 MLB with Winners on the +201 White Sox and +118 Rays. Friday MLB has THREE Winners as we go for the 3-0 SWEEP. But I’m backing the hometown Padres to come out on top behind Michael King. While both clubs have had their share of recent ups and downs, San Diego enters this matchup with the stronger overall profile and a well-rested roster after a day off Thursday. Michael King has been outstanding to open the 2025 campaign, posting a 3.38 FIP and 1.07 WHIP across five starts, including a dominant complete game shutout. More importantly, he’s had the Rays’ number in limited exposure, holding their current lineup to just a .192 average and a .596 OPS over 26 at-bats. Tampa Bay, meanwhile, is fresh off a hard-fought extra-inning win in Arizona on Thursday night and could be vulnerable to a bit of a letdown here. Shane Baz has been excellent in his own right, but he’ll be tested by a Padres lineup that typically performs well at home and is eager to bounce back following a disappointing road trip. Take San Diego. Projected score: Padres 5, Rays 3.
