We like the Pittsburgh Pirates to defeat the Miami Marlins on Thursday at 4:10pm ET for a number of reasons. Here are some of the more important ones:
Pittsburgh will have Paul Skenes on the mound. He was runner up in the Cy Young race last season as a rookie.
Skenes is already the solo favorite to win the NL Cy Young this season. We think he starts strong.
Pittsburgh has a better lineup than people think too. Oneil Cruz is a bat to keep an eye on.
Miami will turn to Sandy Alcantara to pitch at home in the first game. He didn't play all of last year due to Tommy John Surgery.
Alcantara wasn't so good in 2023 either -- 7-12 with an ERA of 4.12.
We think Pittsburgh gets it done on Opening Day.
