Analysis
#636 UC SAN DIEGO (-) over UC Irvine at 9:40 PM EST The Tritons have been the Big West's best all season long and, with a ticket to the NCAA Tournament and their 30th straight up victory on the line, head coach Eric Olen and his troops will steamroll the Anteaters. UC Irvine enters this title bout on a 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS run. That fact is noted. However, skipper Russell Turner and his crew will run out of gas here matched up against a UC San Diego squad that features the conference player of the year in Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones. Historically speaking, the Tritons hold a 3-2 SU and ATS mark in the last five wars in this series and won and covered the last meeting at Irvine back on February 8th. In addition, UC San Diego has gone on a financial tear lately posting a lucrative 27-2 SU and 21-5-1 ATS record in its last 29 games including a nearly perfect 12-1 SU and 11-1-1 ATS provided its opponent hits the hardwood with confidence off a straight up win. Finally, in the Big West Conference Tournament Final, favorites priced at -2 or more have gone on a stunning 12-3 SU and 10-5 ATS run. This is a tough wagering spot for UCI. When running the floor against a foe that enters with momentum off three or more straight up wins, Coach Tuner and his crew have been a poor investment posting a rough 5-13 ATS record in their last 18 tries. In this setting fighting an opponent that is not off a blowout win of 21 points or more, the Anteaters fall to a pitiful 3-13 ATS. Also, in conference tournament play checking in off a pointspread win, Cal Irvine holds a timid 14-23-1 ATS mark including an ugly 9-21-1 ATS provided it holds a team won/loss percentage of .400 or higher. On a blistering 14-0 SU and 11-2-1 ATS run and with a ticket to the Big Dance available, the Tritons will lean on the best player in the conference to help them grab this dub and cover. Take UC San Diego. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
