- Analysis
- At 3:00 PM ET on Sunday, we will be playing Under the Total in the game between the Los Angeles Rams (391) and the Philadelphia Eagles (392). THE SITUATION: Los Angeles (11-7) has won six of their last seven games after their 27-9 upset win as a 2.5-point underdog last Sunday. Philadelphia (15-3) has won three games in a row and 13 of their last 14 contests after their 22-10 victory against Green Bay as a 5.5-point favorite last Saturday.
REASONS TO TAKE UNDER THE TOTAL: The Rams only gained 292 yards of offense last week despite the easy victory. Their pass rush sacked Sam Darnold nine times — and they held the Vikings to just 269 yards. Minnesota averaged a mere 3.3 Yards-Per-Attempt in the passing game. In the last six weeks of the regular season, their defense ranked 11th in the NFL in Opponent Expected Points Added per play allowed. Los Angeles also averaged 32.5 seconds per play which will likely be head coach Sean McVay’s game plan in this game. If he can keep this game close going into the fourth quarter, he has to like his chances with Matthew Stafford at quarterback. Snow is expected this afternoon — and that is not ideal for the veteran who played indoors for most of his games when playing with Detroit. In his nine career games played in snow or rain, Stafford is completing only 54.6% of his passes with 14 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions — and he has a 76.0 Passer Rating in those games. The Rams have played 5 of their last 6 games Under the Total on the road coming off an upset victory. They have played 5 of their last 7 games Under the Total away from home against fellow NFC opponents — and they have played 9 of their last 13 road games Under the Total as an underdog of up to seven points. Philadelphia only gained 290 yards last week in their win against the Packers. They held Green Bay to just 302 total yards. Their defense leads the NFL in Defensive DVOA using the metrics by the Football Outsiders. That unit has clicked since inserting rookie Cooper DeJean into the starting lineup at nickelback which made their base formation a 4-2-5. The Eagles have now played 20 of their last 23 games Under the Total in January. They have played 5 of their last 7 games at home Under the Total after a straight-up win. They have also played 7 of their last 9 games at home Under the Total — and they have won 5 straight Unders at home when favored by up to seven points. They have also played 5 of their last 6 games Under the Total with the Total set in the 42.5-49 point range. Jalen Hurts has been in a bit of a funk in the second half of the season in the passing game and he may still be recovering from a concussion. He has not been great in cold weather either. In his ten career games in temperatures under 40 degrees, Hurts is completing only 57.8% of his passes with five touchdown passes and seven interceptions — and he averages only 127.7 passing Yards-Per-Game. In his three games this season with the temperature no higher than 40 degrees, he has averaged just 139.7 passing YPG. If the Philly game script is to abandon the pass, the Rams can cheat their strong safety into the box to help stop running back Saquon Barkley.
FINAL TAKE: The Eagles on the first meeting between these two teams on November 24th by a 37-20 score as a 3-point favorite. The Rams have played 5 of their last 7 games on the road Under the Total when playing with revenge. With temperatures in the low-30s with snow now expected and wind gusts up to 23 miles per hour, the passing attacks and field goal attempts may be affected which will limit scoring. 10* NFL Sunday Afternoon O/U Discounted Deal with Under the Total in the game between the Los Angeles Rams (391) and the Philadelphia Eagles (392). Best of luck for us — Frank.
