- #207 OHIO (-) over Jacksonville State at 12 PM EST
Even though both teams will be without their head coaches when this game kicks off, the Bobcats defense is a force to be reckoned with and they'll help key this Cure Bowl victory. Jacksonville State has issues stopping the run (allow an avg of 170.2 ypg and 4.2 ypc) and the Gamecocks will struggle to slow down an Ohio rushing attack that averaged 221.5 yards per game at the alarming rate of 5.2 yards per carry.
Historically speaking, Ohio has played extremely well in bowl games inking a proud 5-0 SU and 3-1-1 ATS record in its last five tries. In addition, the Bobcats have been on an absolute heater in their last 37 battles posting a powerful 29-8 SU and 24-9-1 ATS mark including a lucrative 20-2 SU and 17-4 ATS provided they storm in off a pointspread victory. Finally, MAC bowlers that take the field with confidence off a straight up win hold an elite 27-13-1 ATS tally provided they are facing a foe that storms in off a straight up dub as well. If our "play on" side is priced as a favorite or a short underdog of +7 or less, this situation improves to a reliable 23-9-1 ATS.
Off that 40-point home win over Western Kentucky in the Conference USA Championship tilt, this will be a tough spot for the Gamecocks. Since 2001, Conference USA single-digit bowl underdogs have struggled financially inking a weak 19-42 SU and 22-39 ATS record in their last 61 tries including a dismal 7-29 SU and 10-26 ATS provided their opponent enters off a pointspread win. If our "play against" side scored 35 points or more in their last contest, this conference situation falls to a miserable 1-15 SU and 2-14 ATS. Additionally, Conference USA bowl pups priced at +9 or less hold a pitiful 0-16 SU and 2-14 ATS tally provided their opponent takes the field off a straight up underdog win.
The Bobcats run the football effectively and play solid defense. Those are the two key ingredients needed for a bowl win and cover. Take Ohio. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
