- Analysis
- Ohio is coming into this game with a 10-3 record this season and they were 7-1 in their conference. They won the MAC Championship with a 38-3 win against Miami-Ohio and they have been on fire in their recent games to end the regular season. They have won their last 6 straight games and their defense has been great in these, allowing 16 points or less in 5 of their last 6 games and allowing 10 points or less in 4 of their last 5 games. Their offense has also been good as they have scored 35+ points in their last 2 straight as well as 5 of their last 6 games. They are going up against a Jacksonville State team that is 9-4 this season and they were 7-1 in their conference. They also won their conference championship in the C-USA, beating Western Kentucky at home 52-12, but they are not going to have home advantage here and that has been a big factor for them all season, going 6-1 there. Their defense has been better recently as they have held their opponents under 20 points in their last 3 straight games, but that has not been the case for a lot of the season as they have allowed 30+ points in 5 of their 9 games this season. Jacksonville State does not have a great passing game as they lean heavily on the run game, averaging 267.3 rushing yards per game as well as 5.7 yards per carry, but they are going to struggle against this defense as Ohio is only allowing 94.3 rushing yards per game and 3.1 yards per carry. Ohio is going to make this Jacksonville State offense 1-dimensional and even their pass defense has been very good this season as well. Ohio also has a very strong run game themselves, averaging 211.5 rushing yards per game as well as 5.2 yards per carry, and this is a JSU run defense that is allowing 170.2 yards per game as well as 4.2 yards per carry so Ohio is going to have no problem moving the ball in this game. Both teams were great in their conference championships, but JSU played theirs at home while Ohio played in a neutral location and Ohio matches up much better in this game. Ohio will cover the spread in this game.
