Analysis
Atlanta 3-1 ATS in the past four in this series, with the Falcons on a short week after a fourth consecutive one-score game to start the season. The Falcons have already lost two home games this season and very narrowly avoided a third home loss last week with a 26-24 win over the rival Saints with a 58-yard field goal in the closing seconds after allowing the go-ahead score with just a minute to go. Atlanta was outgained by 51 yards overall and only made one trip to the red zone despite the win. The Atlanta defense was on the field for 71 plays last week and now hosts Tampa Bay for another big division game to kick off Week 5. The Falcons are a top 10 yards per play team on both side of the ball through four weeks and through a difficult schedule. This has been one of the worst red zone offense in the league however with a touchdown percentage only better than New England, Miami, and Denver. Tampa Bay has been a very impressive pass defense this season and the 3-1 Buccaneers will look to take command of the division race with their first NFC South contest, before heading to New Orleans next week. Baker Mayfield has the fourth best QB Rating in the NFL with Tampa Bay offering an impressive receiving corps. The Buccaneers have wins over Washington, Detroit, and Philadelphia, three of the best offensive teams in the NFC while the one loss was perhaps a bit of a letdown situation overlooking a winless Broncos team with a rookie quarterback, with Denver’s defense so far proving to be among the best in the league. Atlanta can’t make such a claim, and the Falcons are a few plays away from being 0-4 and one of the biggest disappointments in the league. Atlanta made big off-season changes that the team is still working through and a short week game following a tense win vs. the team’s top rival is a less than ideal set-up for the slight home favorite. Thank you for playing with Nelly’s and Best of Luck.
