- Root Reserve on Milwaukee
The Brewers Tobias Myers heads to the bump for game three on Thursday night, and the 26-year-old is coming off of an excellent season where he made 27 total appearances (25 starts). The right-hander was very serviceable in a banged-up rotation, going 9-6 with a 3.00 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. Myers pitched against the Mets last Saturday, holding them scoreless over 4.0 innings, conceding only one hit while striking out five batters. It was a no-decision effort in a 6-0 victory. Milwaukee has won four out of Myers’ last five starts. Quintana pitched well last Saturday, only giving up two earned runs against the Brewers. However, his career sample size isn’t great against Milwaukee, as their current roster is slashing .303/.403/.500 against him over 66 at-bats. That includes some of the big guns of Willy Adames (5-14, HR, 2 2B), Jackson Chourio (3-5, 2B), and William Conteras (3-8, HR, 2B). Since Milwaukee’s offense has hit Quintana in the past, and Myers just mowed New York down last weekend, I’m backing the Brewers in this spot. Give me Milwaukee, who’s now 6-2 against New York in 2024, to win this game and advance to the NLDS. Notice that this is the exact pitching matchup that we had last Saturday, in a game that the Brewers won 6-0. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I’m going right back to the Crew in game three, as the momentum has clearly shifted back toward them.
