Analysis
After getting swept at home by the Halos, the M's will travel to the Windy City and annihilate the Pale Hose. Seattle is resting 1.0-game back in the division behind Houston and losing to a Chicago squad that owns a woeful 27-78 record this season simply can't happen. Right-hander George Kirby will pick up the pill and stop the bleeding for the visitors. In 2024, No. 68 has made 21 starts and been tapped for 44 earned runs and 108 hits in 123.2 innings of work. George struck out 122 and walked 13 on his way to a 7-7 mark with a 3.20 ERA. Under the lights, Kirby has been at his statistical best surrendering just 26 earned runs and 65 hits in 84.0 frames. That equates to a 5-5 tally with a stout 2.79 ERA. On the mound for the ChiSox will be rookie righty Drew Thorpe. With a grand total of seven career starts to his name, No. 33 has been slapped for 13 earned runs and 22 hits in 38.2 innings of work. Drew struck out 24 and walked 17 on his way to a surprising 3-1 record with a 3.03 ERA. In 11 minor league starts, Thorpe was in a zone surrendering nine earned runs and 35 hits in 60.0 frames. That shakes down to a stunning 7-1 tally with a 1.35 ERA. There are a number of technical indicators working against the home team in this matchup. Chicago has slipped in 11 straight, 34 of its last 51 at home, 55 of its last 75 when facing a winning team, and nine of its last 11 against AL West opposition. On the other side of the yard, Seattle has won 26 of its 47 against sub .500 foes. If the M's want to be a true division contender, knocking off a White Sox bunch that owns a nasty 27-78 record has to happen. Take Seattle with Kirby. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
