Analysis
You're not about to convince me the Houston Astros are better than the Los Angeles Dodgers. So when the two start their series tonight in Houston, I'm banking on the Dodgers' bats to come to life and they continue their recent winning tear by dispatching the Astros. Los Angeles has won six of seven and is hitting .263 in that span while scoring more than five runs per game. I like the fact the Dodgers have been powering the ball much better, as they're slugging .491 and have smoked 12 home runs along the way. They've been fantastic during Interleague play this season, going 17-9 while outscoring teams from the junior circuit 129-82. I'm most definitely more confident in backing Dodgers starter Gavin Stone than Houston's Framber Valdez. Stone is overdue for a big performance, having gone 0-1 with a 6.39 ERA this month. That was after going 4-0 with a 1.97 ERA in June. He's not about to let July pass him by without grabbing a win when he registered at least one win April, May and June. Flipside of that, Valdez hasn't been consistent enough for me to trust his 2-0 mark and 2.89 ERA in July. Not when he lost three in May and two in June. He's due for a loss, and I can see it happening against the Dodgers, whom he's struggled against. It's only been two starts, but he's 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA against them, and they're hitting .250 against him. He's also allowed them to smack a couple of homers. I like Los Angeles in this spot.
