- #975 NY YANKEES with Gil (-) over Milwaukee with Rea at 8:10 PM EST
Off yesterday's embarrassing 3-1 home loss to the A's, the Bronx Bombers will travel to Wisconsin and smash the Brewers. Milwaukee enters this matchup for a pair of road wins over Pittsburgh and manager Pat Murphy and his crew will be in trouble here.
Young right-hander Luis Gil will take the mound for the visitors. With four starts in the books this season, No. 81 has been touched for just six earned runs and eight hits in 19.2 innings of work. Luis struck out 29 and walked 17 on his way to a 1-1 record with a solid 2.75 ERA. Overall, with 11 career outings in the books, Gil has surrendered only 20 earned runs and 33 hits in 53.0 frames. That shakes down to a 2-2 tally with a 3.40 ERA.
Righty Colin Rea will hit the hill for the home team. So far this season, No. 48 has made four starts and allowed five earned runs and 22 hits in 21.2 innings. Colin whiffed 14 and issued six free passes en route to 2-0 mark with a 2.08 ERA. With 66 career appearances to his credit including 53 starts, Rea has been ripped for 152 earned runs and 285 hits in 300.2 frames. That adds up to a 16-14 tally with a 4.55 ERA.
On a technical note, the Pinstripes have tasted victory nine of their last 13 as a guest, 14 of their last 20 under the lights, and 13 of its last 16 against a right-handed starter.
Currently tied with the O's for the top spot in the AL East, the Yankees need this victory in order to keep pace in the race for the division lead. Take New York with Gil. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
