The Boston Celtics not only stayed alive Thursday night, but they covered the number with a blowout win over the Miami Heat.
And even though Jimmy Butler came out and basically said it's okay because the Heat weren't themselves in the past two games, the same could be said about the Celtics, in that they weren't the same in Games 1 through 3.
Derrick White scored 24 points behind six 3-pointers, as Boston dominated the Heat 110-97 to extend the Eastern Conference finals. Marcus Smart added 23 points and five steals, and Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown each finished with 21 points as the Celtics trimmed Miami’s series lead to 3-2 and are now halfway to becoming the first team in history to overcome a 3-0 deficit and win a series. Teams that fell behind 3-0 are 0-150 all-time in series.
Game 6 is scheduled for Saturday night.
NHL Notes:
- Road teams are 44-37 in the postseason.
- Underdogs are 38-41 in the postseason, with a $100 wager on the pups turning a profit of roughly $1200.
- The Over is 41-39-1, but the Under has cashed 30 of the last 51 games.
- There have been 23 overtime games, and road teams are 15-8 in those games.
- NHL favorites higher than -150 are 14-33 on the puck line this postseason.
It was a night of survival, apparently, as the Dallas Stars staved off elimination with a 3-2 overtime win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday.
The Stars showed plenty of character after being humiliated in a Game 3 loss at home, when the Golden Knights won 4-0. Thursday was the first of a two-game suspension for Stars captain Jamie Benn.
Game 5 is scheduled for Saturday night in Las Vegas.
In the WNBA, the Phoenix Mercury won and covered at home with a 90-81 victory over the Minnesota Lynx, while the defending champion Las Vegas Aces won 94-85 in Los Angeles. But it was the Sparks covering the +15 1/2 points on their own court. The Aces and Sparks complete the home-and-home series on Saturday.
I'm on an 89-72-4 run since April 17, with $13,440 net profit and tonight we put the money to work with a WNBA LINE MISTAKE WINNER off one of tonight's games, as I see the number is off by at least 5 points.
Two of the seven underdogs won Wednesday on the MLB diamond, while there was one game a pick'em. The most notable underdog victory had to be the Detroit Tigers (+130 DraftKings) in their 7-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. The Tigers have now won two straight and six of 10 despite hitting a rather bleak .237. They are scoring 4.5 runs per game and are averaging 1.0 HR per contest.
A full slate of baseball and I have a total of four releases. And I've isolated a Blank Check Winner for Friday. I'm giving you full permission to fill in the amount with this one, as I think we have crazy value staring us in the eye with this Blank Check Winner backed by four key stats that provide us with a 19-1 advantage with this particular matchup. MLB BLANK CHECK WINNER # 6 OF 9.
