UTEP vs Oklahoma Prediction

The current betting odds have Oklahoma listed as a 30.5 point favorite in this game according to Draftkings Sportsbook. Oklahoma has a lot of change going on in their program from the players all the way to the coaches. Venables will be in his first season coaching Oklahoma here, also his first season as a head coach in college. He is coming from Clemson where he always had a great defense and there is no doubt that he will be working on fixing up this defense and making it one of the best in the country. They have a lot of changes in their offense as well as Dillon Gabriel will be the new starting QB but he has put up some big numbers at UCF over the years and he will be bringing that talent to a much better offense here. UTEP has already played in a game this season which they lost at home to North Texas who is not that great, but now they are on the road against a much bigger program with a lot more talent. Their offense was not that good in that game either as they started out strong but quickly fell apart with no run game and for a coach like Venables and his defensive mindset, he will make the play calls to stunt this UTEP offense and make it so they cannot move the ball on this Oklahoma defense. They will want to come out with a bang here in their first game with all of these changes and try to make a statement for this season. The best way to place a bet here is on Oklahoma to cover the spread in this game.

Notable Quotes

"Just get more physical with what we're doing, more than anything. I think we have an offensive line that is equipped to run the football, I really do. I think we just stay to what we do and work with better pad level and physicality.” - Dana Dimel on improving the run game after their loss against UNT.

“I believe in promoting older guys who have been here. They’ve paid a price. It means a little more something to them. Being a senior should be a big deal. Needs to be a big deal.
