Padres - Rockies preview and analysis

The funny thing about baseball is that you watch a team play as well as it has over the course of the last couple of weeks and suddenly there is one team that is making things rough for themselves only because they chose to act like this. In the case of the San Diego Padres, we are seeing first hand what something is brewing when we have play team that is playing so well against everyone else but when it comes to one team everything just folds. And The funny thing is with the Padres is you can take those four straight wins against the Chicago Cubs out of the equation and you would still find 4 consecutive losses to the Colorado Rockies in such a short period of time.

And honestly if it were not for the fact that Ryan McMahon tiebreaking home run ended all doubts of a San Diego comeback, we might be here talking about the Padres getting it he victory in this weekend series. But here we are with the Rockies winning a second straight game over the no longer first place Padres on Saturday. But it's not just the mashing from McMahon in such a short period of time that has at least made the Rockies look respectable this weekend.

“There’s nothing like it guys, in the big leagues, helping your team win. Nothing compares to it,” McMahon said. “That’s the best part of it all, getting back with the boys, everybody being happy for you and happy that the team just went up a run late in the game. Those are the moments you’re going to remember when you’re old and nobody else remembers that you played professional baseball.”

CJ Cron, once again, destroy yet another baseball after hitting two home runs the other night. Charlie Blackmon also went yard for the Rockies which shows that at any given moment anyone can take over and carry this team. McMahon entered this game with a batting average of lower than 185. After three hits on Saturday it would be safe to assume that number to go up.

“I just tried to take my mind out of it and just go play the game,” he said. “It’s the hardest thing to do. This game is very mental. It’s taxing on you, and sometimes you just have to stay out of your own way.”

Manny Machado also went yard with a home run himself to cut the lead and getting the Padres back into the thick of things in this game. However the offense dried up at the worst possible time and San Diego now has to try and avoid a sweep.

Prediction

Part of me wants to take the Padre so bad just because I can't envision them getting swept at the hands of whatever is the mascot of Colorado. And with that being said, why not? I'm going to take Colorado in a rather interesting upset and will eventually lead to a sweep over the once dominant Padres. Rockies win 6-4
