Season Record

Spurs: 8-13, 12th place Western Conference
Suns: 19-4, 2nd place Western Conference

The Spurs are barely treading water in the Western Conference.  They either don’t have enough talent or enough ambition.  They still play the way their Hall of Fame coach Gregg Popovich prefers… which is to ignore the 3-pointers and focus on fundamentals like defense and reb… That worked for 20 years when the roster was filled with talent like Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker among others.  Of course, now the statistics being produced have correctly tanked the Spurs odds in nearly every Spurs Prediction. They don’t win and the roster doesn’t have the talent necessary for slow, plodding, stiff basketball.

The streak is over.  Phoenix had won 18 games in a row.  Decimated 18 opponents.  Had an absolute franchise record-setting November to ascend to first place in the Western Conference.  The big test of the streak was game 17 against the Golden State Warriors which the Suns won despite All-Star shooting guard Devin Booker going down in the first half with a tweaked hamstring.  The contest was rematched just 3 days later as the Suns faced the Warriors again, this time on the road.  This time Devin Booker didn’t start the game and fantastic young Forward Mikal Bridges had to come out for awhile with an injured wrist.  The Suns lost game 19 of the streak.  They have officially announced that they are Finals contenders and completely for real. They only have 1 loss in Dec and they are going to try to keep it that way.

San Antonio Spurs vs Phoenix Suns Preview and Analysis

Recent Form

San Antonio is 8-13 on the season, but 12-9 ATS.  They have logged 9 Overs, 10 Unders, and 2 Push.  They are 4-7 in road games.

Phoenix is 19-4 on the season, but 12-11 ATS. They have notched 10 Overs and 13 Unders.  They are a fantastic 10-2 in home games.

Offensive Analysis

The Spurs are 15th in scoring with 107.7 points per game, 18th in rebounds with 44.8 per game, and 1st in AST/TO ratio (there is that good coaching right there) with 2.1.  They are 5th in FG%, 16th in 3PT% (though very low in attempts) and 30th in FT%... a couple guys can’t shoot free throws well.

The Suns are 5th in points per game with 111.6 per, 17th in rebounds per game with 44.9, 3rd in AST/TO ratio with 1.9.  The real impressive numbers are the 1st in FG% with 48% and the 4th in 3PT% with 37%.  The Suns can make a shot.  They are pretty solid on defense as well.

San Antonio Spurs vs Phoenix Suns Prediction

Our prediction for Monday, December 6th is….  Suns 118 - Spurs 111

Suns to win and the Over.  Yes, Devin Booker will miss the game… and that still means the two best players on the court will both be wearing Suns uniforms  in Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton… Also if Mikal Bridges is recovered and playing then there is a case that the three best players in the game will all be Suns.
