Season Record

Spurs: 7-13, 12th place Western Conference
Warriors: 18-3, 2nd place Western Conference

For years and years spilling into decades the Spurs were accused of being a boring team.  They played fundamental basketball and strong defense and wracked up the wins.  They were always in the playoffs to the point of a record setting streak… They won championships.  Their Big 3 is certainly accomplished enough to all make the HOF.   Those days are gone and now the Spurs are a boring team that doesn’t win.  Not only do they not make the playoffs anymore, they flat out struggle to win a regular-season game.  The Spurs share a state with the Houston Rockets and the Dallas Mavericks… They can not afford a long rebuild or they could literally lose a generation of Texas fans to the Mavs.

The Golden State Warriors also dropped from a Championship winning and contending dynasty to a bad team that couldn’t make the playoffs… but after a quick 2 season dip to the bottom, they quickly rebuilt into a contender.  After all they still have Steph Curry and Draymond Green… and Klay Thompson is teasing the basketball world with an imminent return to the court.  GS home games are in a shiny new arena, perfectly suited for home court advantage in the playoffs this season.  The biggest risk for GS is that they look over this matchup sice it is the night after a rematch with the Suns.

San Antonio Spurs vs Golden State Warriors Preview and Analysis

Recent Form

(At the time of this writing Golden State is about to play the Phoenix Suns.. the numbers will be off by 1 in wins or losses, but the betting lines are out on the Warriors/Spurs game Saturday and the numbers used here were used by the bookmakers as well)

San Antonio is 7-13 on the season, but 11-9 ATS.  They have logged 9 Overs, 10 Unders, and 1 Push.  They are 3-7 in road games.  They are on a season-high 3 game win streak beating the Portland Trail Blazers, Washington Wizards, and Boston Celtics.  Their last loss was to the Atlanta Hawks way back on Nov. 24th.

Golden State is 18-3 on the season, but 15-5-1 ATS.  They have notched 6 Overs and 15 Unders.  They are a near perfect 11-1 in home games.

Offensive Analysis

San Antonio is 15th in points per game with 107.5, 19th in rebounds with 44.8 per game, 1st in AST/TO ratio (well-coached) with 2.1.  They are not terrible, they shoot the ball well 46.7 FG% for 6th in the league, 34.5% 3PT for 15th in the league… It’s the darn defensive numbers that keep spoiling the record…. 19th points, 21st FG, 20 3PT, 24th rebounds.  If they could find a defensive stopper they would be a better team.

Golden State is 2nd in ppg with 113.1, 3rd in rebounds with 47.2 per game, 9th in AST/TO ratio 1.8…. 2nd in FG%, 6th in 3PT%.  They are, as always, one of the best shooting teams in the league.  They are also amazing on defense this season (thanks Draymond Green) 1st in defending points, 1st in defending FG%, 5th in 3PT defense… just jaw dropping stuff.
