The New York Mets hammered the Padres in Game 1 of this series.  Shelling Blake Snell early with 3 big runs in the first inning.  Game 2 is tonight (Tuesday).... This prediction focuses on Game 3 of the series (Wednesday).  A quick tip on how to bet on this series is look closely at the pitching matchup… Then remember that the Mets will get plenty of run support.  The great betting opportunity is the most obvious betting opportunity.  The Padres are plenty happy that they got 3 straight wins off the Milwaukee Brewers… because it looks like they will be giving them back to the Universe at the hands of the New York Mets.  The Mets offense is no joke… They alone beat Game 1’s OVER number by 3.5 runs.

A National League matchup between the Best in the East division and the 2nd best in the West division.  Both teams in this matchup are good and looking to keep it up… However the Mets are not just leading the national League East, but the entire National League.  In all of baseball only the American League Yankees are better at this moment.  In the NL East the Mets have an  8.5 game lead over last year’s World Series Champs the Atlanta Braves.  The Padres on the other hand… are doing very well for the Padres.  The Padres are 3 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West, but still are among just 5 National League teams to have over 30 wins.  The mission for the Padres is to keep ahead of the Giants and within striking range of the Dodgers.

The New York Mets have won 7 of their last ten games… They got a little smacked around by the Dodgers but a lot of teams do.  They are 7 Over and 3 Under during that stretch. They went 1-2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-0 against the Washington Nationals, 3-0 against the Philadelphia Phillies, and 1-0 against the San Francisco Giants.  The batting has been going gangbusters… That is why the Over has landed so many times for this club over the last ten games.  The pitching has been coming through as well. Starter Carlos Carrasco leads the team in wins from the mound with 6… while first baseman Pete Alonso has been swatting pitches over the wall to the tally of 16 so far.  Everything is going gangbusters so far.

The San Diego Padres have won just 5 of their last 10 games.  With 3 Overs, 5 Unders, and 2 Push.  The Padres started the season strong and have swooned a little over the last two weeks.  It is unfortunate that the Mets are the team they will have to face at exactly this important moment.  The Padres pitchers are carrying their weight for sure… to stay on pace though they will need some better batting.  Manny Machado leads the team in home runs, batting average, and OPS while Fernando Tatis Jr has been out with a wrist injury and will be out until mid-June.  The Padres are on a 3-game winning streak going 3-1 against the Milwaukee Brewers, 0-3 against the St Louis Cardinals, and 2-1 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

I can not tell you exactly why the O/U number went down .5 points after the Mets have proven they can score with ease on the Padres.  My bet for this game will be Mets on the moneyline and the OVER.  I don’t believe Sean Manaea’s ERA points toward him being a wildly special pitcher that would be needed to stop the scoring.

He picked himself up and got back on the horse… Since that late summer game… Chris’s current stats have had a better WHIP…. His strikeouts per inning has gone up… and he has become a major contributor to the success of the New York Mets this season. He is not the best pitcher in the league, but he sure is tough.

Padres: LHP Sean Manaea, 2-3, 3.77 ERA, 68 strikeouts in 62 innings pitched.  1.11 WHIP.  “The Manaealator” needs a better nickname.  I’m not one of his teammates so it would be inappropriate of me to suggest one… but boy oh boy that is a lazy nickname.  He has an almost identical ERA to Chris Bassitt but will almost certainly get less run support from his offense.  He will have to dig deep if he wants the win.
