Season Record

Pelicans: 5-17, 14th place Western Conference
Clippers: 11-9, 5th place Western Conference

The Pelicans traded superstar PF/C Anthony Davis in 2019, 2 seasons ago, for a host of young players and draft picks… That same summer they selected PF Zion Williamson #1 overall in the NBA draft.  So many changes!  A deluge of young talent, a cupboard full of draft picks and a new super star!... Two years later they are just as bad as they ever were.  They have won 2 of their last 3 games and are only at 5 wins on the season by game 23.  They stink.  A big part of the problem is they let Julius Randle walk away to the New York Knicks because they had ZION… now Julius is the star of a newly winning team… They traded Lonzo Ball to the Chicago Bulls for very little (they didn’t want to pay him)... now Lonzo is playing well on a newly winning team.  It seems that no one in the Pelicans Organization is capable (or maybe willing) of gauging talent.  Also Zion has barely played in the two seasons and ⅓ seasons he has been in New Orleans.  The man is super talented, but at a conservative guess 350 pounds?... he will always have foot, ankle, knee injuries until he ultimately retires because of it.  Also ZION does not want to keep playing in New Orleans where the spotlight of the world will never shine on an NBA player… trade him to a big market… get more picks and players and… hell, move the team to San Diego.

The Clippers are a talented team in a holding pattern.  They spent 2017, 2018, and 2019 making moves that would end with a two-superstar team that was maxed out in salary and had no draft picks of its own for years to come.  They literally can't make any moves if they wanted to unless it was to sign a free agent for the minimum.  The two stars are really good.  SF/PF Paul George and SG/SF Kahwi Leonard.  Kahwi has been recovering from surgery and has missed every game so far this season.  There is a cloud of silence over when he will ever come back.  Paul George is playing lights out and keeping the Clips at barely above average in the hopes that someday Kawhi will return…. And then we may see something.

New Orleans Pelican vs Los Angeles Clippers Preview and Analysis

The Pelicans are 5-17 on the season, but 9-13 ATS.  They have logged 6 Overs, 15 Unders, and 1 Push.  They are a hapless 2-10 on the road.  Fortunately for the Pelicans very few of their games get selected for national broadcasts.

The Clippers are 11-8 on the season, but 9-10 ATS.  They have notched 8 Overs and 11 Unders.  They are playing very well at home with a 9-4 record in Staples/Crypto.com arena.

Offensive Analysis

The Pelicans are 27th in the league in points per game with 101.9, 14th in rebounds with 46 per game, 21st in AST/TO ratio 1.5.  It’s all not great.  They are 27th in FG% 42,5%, 20th in 3PT% with 33.4%.... The lone bright spot is that for some reason the Pels are 3rd in the league in FT%... so if they could get to the free throw line more often… and if games were shorter… and if ZION wanted to play… maybe they could win a few more games?

The Clippers are 22nd in points with 105.2 per game, 16th in rebounds with 45.4, 24th in AST/TO ratio with 1.5.  The Clips are 20th in FG% with 44.2%, 13th in 3PT% with 34.8% and 6th in FT%.  The Clippers stats are not lighting up the world… in fact the Clippers lost to the Pelicans 94-81 the last time these two clubs met.

New Orleans Pelicans vs Los Angeles Clippers Prediction

Our prediction for Monday, November 29th is…   Clippers 108 - Pelicans 80

The Clippers will avenge the loss the last time these opponents met.  All it will take is to hit a few more threes early and the pelicans have a habit of folding.
