Mystical Washington Suddenly Making Bettors Money

The Washington Mystics might have the worst record in the league, sitting at 3-13, but they've been one of the most profitable teams after covering 10 of their 16 games.

Washington's 10-6 ATS mark ranks third in the WNBA, behind Minnesota (12-3 SU, 11-4 ATS) and Phoenix (8-7, 10-5).

Washington, which lost its first 12 games of the season, has covered five of its last six after Saturday's impressive 97-69 outright home win over the Dallas Wings. The Mystics opened a 1.5-point home favorite, but the betting market drove the number 4.5 points to the Wings laying -3 on the road.

My WNBA Dog of the Month cashed in easily, as I told you the Mystics' defense has improved dramatically since June 11.

After holding the Wings to 69 points on 39.4% shooting, the Mystics rank third in the league in holding their four opponents to 76.5 points per game on a league fourth-lowest 65% shooting in that span.

The Mystics have also seen their offensive production improve, increasing their output from 72.5 points after their first 10 games, to 86.5 points over their last six games. The improvement has helped five of the last six Mystics games sail over the posted total.

Seattle is up next with a 9-6 ATS record, followed by Indiana and Caitlin Clark with a 9-8 spread mark.

In the middle of the pack are Los Angeles (8-8-1), Connecticut (7-8) and Chicago (6-8).

Next up is banged-up Dallas (6-9), a top-four team last season and heads into Sunday's rematch in Washington mired in a 10-game losing skid on the floor while they've failed to cover eight of its last nine.

The bottom three teams are New York (6-11) and Las Vegas and Atlanta, who are both 5-9 at the window.
