Marlins vs Nationals Prediction

The Miami Marlins will be taking on the Washington Nationals for the beginning of a three-game series on Monday. The Marlins won their last game against the Atlanta Braves with their Sunday result still pending. The Nats are now on a 3 game losing streak with their Sunday result still pending in their series finale with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Marlins are coming into this matchup after winning 3 of their last 4 games with their Sunday result still pending. Edward Cabrera gets the nod on Sunday while Sandy Alcantara will be the starting pitcher on the mound on Monday. Alcantara is 8-13 with a 3.24 ERA this season. The team has been up and down with him on the bump as they have won 3 of their last 5 games with him as the starter. In his last start, he allowed 1 ER, that being a HR, and 1 BB with 14 Ks on 4 hits through 9 IP against the New York Mets. He has seen this Nationals lineup once this year back in June and his team lost the game as he allowed 5 runs, 2 being homers, and 3 walks on 6 hits through 5 innings. The Marlins have put up 11 runs in their last 3 games averaging almost 4 runs scored per game. The bats are not always there though so it will be interesting to see if they back him up on Monday if he has a bad game.

The Nats are coming into this game after losing on Saturday to the Pirates 10-7 with Sunday's result still pending. They will have Patrick Corbin on the mound Saturday while Paolo Espino will be throwing the first pitch on Monday. Espino is 4-4 this season with a 4.35 ERA. His team has not been doing well when he starts as they have won just 1 game in his last 7 starts. In his last outing, he allowed 5 ER, 1 of those being a HR, and 2 BB with 7 Ks on 7 hits through 5 innings of work against the Atlanta Braves. He has seen the Marlins lineup twice this season and both times there was a no-decision but the team is 1-1 in those games. He only allowed 1 earned run between both of those games though pitching very well against this Miami team.

Both of these teams are very bad but a bet on the Nats may have some value here. Alcantara has not had good fortune against the Nats while Espino has put the Marlins in their place twice this season. They could take this win here at home. Both pitchers could also end up exploding in this one too so a wager on the over would not be too bad either.

Players to Watch

Miami Marlins: Jesus Aguilar is one player to watch in this game. He leads his team in home runs and RBI and will need to produce some runs in this game here on the road. The Nationals have been hitting the ball well this year so look for him to make some big hits if his team falls behind in this one.

Washington Nationals: Juan Soto is one player to watch here. He leads his team in batting average, hits, RBI, and stolen bases. If the Nats are gonna put up some runs here he will be a big part in it as he has been all year so look for him to have a big game here.

Notable Quotes

"It was a good feeling. To be honest with you, I felt I was going to hit a home run that at-bat. He has a fastball as his primary pitch, and I hit fastballs, so I was looking for that, and I got it. It was also exciting to see my teammate get a home run after that one." - Bryan De La Cruz on hitting a home run late against the Braves to help his team to victory.

"A lot of the walks, a lot of them started 1-0, 2-0. You have to be a little finer when you're behind in counts and I got way too behind today. I threw 55 % strikes today. Incredibly bad." - Josiah Gray on his performance in their Saturday loss to the Pirates.
