Iowa State vs Iowa Prediction

The current betting odds have Iowa listed as a 2.5 point favorite in this game according to Draftkings Sportsbook. Iowa was a solid team in the Big Ten last season as they have had one of the best defenses in the country for years, but their offense hasn't really been enough for them to compete with the bigger schools. They acquired McNamara last season to try and change all that but the offense still didn't look great and they had to rely on their defense quite a bit in games. They won their season opener against Illinois State last week and even though they were only playing a team from the FCS, they still put up an impressive 40-0 win as their offense usually doesn't score that much, even against those weaker kinds of teams. They showed flashes of what could be for this offense this season and they have the potential to be a true threat now with a competent offense to couple with that great defense. Meanwhile, Iowa State also won their season opener against a team from the FCS, but they barely put up any points in their 21-3 win over North Dakota. That game was also at home and now they have to go on the road in a much tougher environment. These two always play a closer game when they meet, but this revamped Iowa offense should be enough to get them the win here at home, especially with that defense still barely giving up any points in their games. The best way to place a bet here is on Iowa to cover the spread in this game.

Notable Quotes

"I do think he's got the ability to get him back at some point this football season, which is honestly the best news that we could have heard on Saturday is what we got. Lower leg injury, I do think he'll be back here at some point later in the season or have the opportunity to get himself back later in the season based on recovery." - Matt Campbell on the injury to Caleb Bacon.

"I frequently tell our players to abide by the rules, and in this instance, I did not. In 26 years as a head coach at Iowa -- and more than four decades as a coach -- this is my first potential Level II NCAA infraction. I made a mistake and would like to apologize to our players, University leadership, and our Hawkeye football fans. I know Coach Budmayr echoes those sentiments." - Kirk Ferentz on his suspension in week 1 for violating recruitment rules.
