Indianapolis Colts Analysis

The Colts are coming into this game with a 2-4 record and they are 1-2 in their road games this season where they will be in this game. The Colts are coming off of a big win by almost 30 points in a divisional game against the Titans and they have now won 2 of their last 3 games coming into this one. They dominated that game from the start and their defense played a great game only allowing 3 points in that one. Carson Wentz had a solid game in that one as he completed 11/20 passes for 223 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jonathan Taylor had a big day on the ground as he led the team in rushing with 145 yards and 2 touchdowns on 14 carries. He was basically their entire running game in that one. T.Y. Hilton played his first game back from injury and he led the receivers with 80 yards on 4 receptions. Parris Campbell and Mo Alie-Cox both caught the only touchdown passes with 1 each. Bobby Okereke led the defense with 9 solo tackles and 5 assisted ones while Kenny Moore II was right behind him with 9 solo tackles. Khari Willis and DeForest Buckner both led the defense in sacks with 1 each in that game, the only 2 sacks for the team in that one. Darius Leonard and Isaiah Rodgers both came away with 1 interception each in that game. They have scored 139 points in their first 6 games averaging 23.2 PPG and they have allowed their opponents to score 131 points against them allowing 21.8 PPG. Their offense is averaging 367.5 YPG while their defense is allowing 366.5 YPG.

San Francisco 49ers Analysis

The 49ers are coming into this game with a 2-3 record overall and they are 0-2 in their home games this season where they will be in this game. The 49ers are coming out of their bye week carrying a 3 game losing streak from before their bye into this game. They lost their last game in a close one against the Cardinals but they never took a lead in that game as close as the score was. Trey Lance played his first game as a starter in their last one and he struggled as a rookie quarterback usually does, completing 15/29 passes for 192 yards and 1 interception. He also led the team in rushing with 89 yards on 16 carries while Eli Mitchell had 9 carries for 43 yards. Deebo Samuel led the team in receiving with 58 yards on 3 receptions and he also had the only touchdown for them in that game on a 13 yard run. Kyle Juszczyk had 35 yards on 3 receptions and Brandon Aiyuk had 2 catches for 32 yards in what was a very quiet day for the receiving corps. Fred Warner led the defense with 7 solo tackles and 2 assisted ones. Nick Bosa and D.J. Jones had the only sacks in that game with 1 each. No one on the defense came away with an interception in that one. They have scored 117 points in their first 5 games averaging 23.4 PPG and they have allowed their opponents to score 119 points against them allowing 23.8 PPG. Their offense is averaging 368.2 YPG while their defense is allowing 329.8 YPG.

Colts vs 49ers Prediction

The Colts are coming into this game as a 4.5 point underdog with the current betting odds according to Draftkings Sportsbook. The 49ers are coming out of their bye week so they have had a lot of time to adjust to Trey Lance with Jimmy Garoppolo being injured. They still have one of their best weapons in George Kittle out for a while now and are starting to look a little thin on their offense especially with their running back injuries as well. The Colts looked really good in their win over the Texans but it was not just that game, they were building up to that performance as they looked good in their previous game as well, almost beating the Ravens before blowing that lead late. Their defense is looking a lot better and Wentz is actually playing well and leading this offense. There is a lot of value on this Colts team moving forward due to their bad start but they are definitely trending in the right direction as a team while the 49ers are going the opposite way. The best bet to place in this game is on the Colts to cover the spread and on them to win this game straight up on the moneyline as they are going to pull off an upset here on Sunday night football.

Players to Watch

Indianapolis Colts: Jonathan Taylor is one player to watch in this matchup. He leads his team in rushing yards and in touchdowns scored this season. He is coming off of a big game where he almost had 150 rushing yards. They will need him to do the same in this game to control the run game so look for him to get a lot of touches in this game and find the end zone.

San Francisco 49ers: Deebo Samuel is one player to watch in this contest. He leads his team in receiving yards and in touchdowns scored this season. The 49ers have a lot of injuries on their offense and he is one of the few weapons they have left to utilize. Look for them to get the ball in his hands a lot here as he is their biggest playmaker left on the offense that is still healthy.

Notable Quotes

"We had to feel what it feels like to win this way. Defensively, getting turnovers. Offensively, getting those chunk plays, and special teams playing solid. It was a good step, but we know we've got to get a lot better." - Frank Reich on his team’s win over the Texans in their last game.

"They ended up getting it done and winning the game, but I thought there were plenty of opportunities for us to do that. Especially when we got that turnover at the end. It could have been a lot closer if we executed on some of those fourth downs earlier." Kyle Shanahan on his team’s loss to the Cardinals in their last game.
