Astros vs Rangers Prediction

The Houston Astros will be taking on the Texas Rangers on Tuesday in an MLB game that will be part of a four-game series, the Rangers will host this series. The first game is on Monday and that result is still pending. The Astros managed to win their series finale on Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels by a final score of 3-1. The Rangers have now won 2 games in a row after winning their three-game series against the Oakland Athletics.

The Astros are coming into this matchup after winning 2 of their last 3 and 4 of their last 6 games. They won on Sunday but they lost on Saturday. Jake Odorizzi will be getting the nod on Monday while Zack Greinke will be the starting pitcher on the mound for the Astros in this game on Tuesday. He is 11-5 with a 3.66 ERA this season. The team has not done well with him recently as they have lost their last 3 games with him starting, all of those games being back in August. In his last start, he allowed his opponents 6 ER, 1 being a home run, and 2 BB with just 1 K on 9 hits through 4 IP. He will be seeing this Rangers lineup for the 5th time this year in this game and he is 3-1 against them on the season. He faced them in his last start where he did not pitch well but he did not allow more than 3 runs in any of the other games he faced them in. After going on a little scoring spree, Houston's offense has calmed down a bit, only scoring 5 runs in their last 2 games. He will need to pitch a good game here as the bats may not be behind him in this one after cooling off the past few days.

The Rangers are coming into this home game after winning 6 of their last 7 games. They won their series finale on Sunday against the A's 4-3. Spencer Howard will be the starter on Monday while Jordan Lyles is throwing the first pitch for the Rangers in this game on Tuesday. Lyles is 8-11 with a 5.43 ERA this season. The Rangers have played well recently with Lyles on the bump as they have won 3 of their last 4 games that he has made an appearance in. In his last game played, he allowed 1 ER and 2 BB with 3 Ks on 3 hits through 7 innings of work against the Arizona Diamondbacks. That was his 2nd relief appearance of the season. This will be his 3rd time seeing this Astros lineup in this regular season and he has not had success against them this year. There was a no-decision in 1 game that his team went on to win but the other he was credited with the loss, both of those games he allowed 4 or more runs in. Texas' offense has been heating up a bit recently. They have scored 25 runs in their last 4 games averaging a little over 6 runs scored per game. If Lyles needs some backup he may just get it with the way the Rangers have been playing recently.

Houston has a much bigger advantage with their pitching in this game. Their bats have been a bit quiet though while the Rangers have been heating up in the scoring column. Lyles has been a bit shaky though and has been beaten up by the Astros twice this season. He may be the little spark they need to get that offense going again. The Astros are looking to have a good postseason run and possibly even make the World Series. They are leading their division and do not have to be part of the wildcard race with the Seattle Mariners and the Blue Jays. Considering the pitching situation and the way each team has been hitting, a bet on the over has some value here as this one could become a high scoring game real fast and the MLB odds should be good.

Texas Rangers: Adolis Garcia is one player to watch here. He leads his team in home runs and RBI and if there is any player that can help this Texas team beat Houston it is him so watch for him to make some big hits in this game.

Notable Quotes

"I was being aggressive,. Not trying to pick too much, especially early. … I just wanted to get in the zone, wanted to give our team some length." - Lance McCullers Jr. on his performance after a win Sunday against the LA Anaheim Angels.

"You look at the two teams, you would assume that we needed to win this game to make the playoffs. That's the way we're playing right now, and it's been fun to watch. Clearly, we're executing a lot better than we were in previous games. Against Oakland, we match up well with them for some reason." - Chris Woodward on his team beating the A’s in the series finale on Sunday.
