Hornets - Rockets preview and analysis

Recent form
Hornets: won three straight; won 133-115 vs. Timberwolves on Friday
Rockets: won 118-113 vs. Bulls on Wednesday

The Charlotte Hornets will try to win for the ninth time in 10 games when they visit the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center on Saturday.

Charlotte is playing the second night of a back-to-back after picking up their third straight win on Friday at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The 18-point win served as a quick trip home for the Hornets, who are playing their fourth road game in five.

Seven players scored in double figures led by Kelly Oubre Jr.'s 27 off the bench on 10 of 17 shooting that included seven 3-pointers. Miles Bridges and Gordon Hayward chipped in with 18 apiece, while LaMelo Ball had 10 points but 13 assists.

"It's the willingness to grow and learn," Oubre said. "We're a young team, but we show up each and every day. We show up ready to work and ready to get better and grow closer as a unit."

The Hornets continue to be one of the fun surprises in the league, jumping to a 13-8 start through the first-quarter mark of the season. The books have taken a liking to the, also. Charlotte is 7-2-0 ATS during that nine-game run having been dogs in six of those. Charlotte was laying two points Friday and open up at 5.5 against Houston.

The Rockets snapped a 15-game losing streak Wednesday in a stunning 5-point win over the Chicago Bulls, their second cover in three games.

In the beginning of a stretch without potential Rookie of the Year, No. 2 overall pick Jalen Green (hamstring), eight players scored in double figures led by Danuel House Jr.'s 18 off the bench, as the Rockets shot 50 percent from the floor and 47.2 (17 of 36) from 3-point range.

"It feels good, and when you make 17 3s it looks a lot better," Rockets coach Stephen Silas said. "We were getting some of those shots previously and shooting 25% instead of 47%. We were in our spacing spots. It looked a lot better because we were making them."

It hasn't been a fun time for the Rockets winning two out of 18, but they've tended to be a surprise on the betting side. Houston is 3-6-1 ATS in their last 10 with covers coming in a 1-point loss at the Denver Nuggets (+11.5) and a 7-point loss at the New York Knicks (+10.5). The Rockets, overall, are 7-10-1 ATS this season despite not having won a game on the road.

Prediction

The Rockets' two wins have come at home while having lost all 11 on the road. But the biggest problem lies with the Hornets; they haven't covered their last four when playing the second game of a back-to-back and the under has cashed in their last four road games. If the Rockets, coming off two days rest, can hang around and have an inkling of how they played on Wednesday, they're going to keep this close. Houston needs something to cheer about and this game seems like a good play for the dog. Hornets by 3
