The NBA Finals have been FIRE!  Absolutely entertaining and full of storylines.  The Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors are tied 2-2.  The back and forth has been amazing.  My Finals record is 3-1.  I bet the Celtics, then the Warriors, then the Celtics… and I stubbed my toe on Game four and bet the Celtics again.  Now the series will move back to the West Coast with the Golden State Warriors regaining home court advantage.  Everything we have learned about these teams is still the focus.  The Boston Celtics are the best defensive team in the league for a reason… The combo of C Robert Williams III and PG Marcus Smart on defense elevates what is already a fantastic roster.  The Warriors can go off offensively all starting with PG and legend Steph Curry… but Klay, Jordan Poole, and a deep bench of shooters can get things going.  This article will contain a prediction for Game 5… Let’s do the numbers.

The Boston Celtics are 2-2 in the NBA Finals.  They lost Game 4 at home.  The thing to remember about the Celtics is the amazing success of their head coach at making next game adjustments and getting his team to keep their heads in the game plan.  In the 2022 postseason the Celtics have lost 8 games out of 22 played over the four series so far.  The betting angle is of course that they have never lost two games in a row.  They always bounce back so far.  A lot has been made of Celtics star SF Jayson Tatum having bad shooting nights… he hit only 8 of 23 shots in Game 4 and finished with just 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists.  Those are good numbers but not for an All-NBA Player in a home Finals game. The Celtics have drastically shrunk the rotation down to just 8 players.  In the same game, SG Jaylen Brown had only 21 points, 6 rebs, and 2 assists.  C Robert Williams III was again amazing on defense while logging 7 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists. Guards Marcus Smart had 18 and Derrick White had 16.  The Game was competitive all the way through… The Celtics even had the lead for the majority.  

The Golden State Warriors are 2-2 in the NBA Finals.  They won Game 4 on the road.  The Warriors are entirely dependent on PG Steph Curry hitting shot after shot during key stretches of the game… Game 4 was that top a T. Curry finished with 43 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists.  Thompson had 18, Wiggins had 17, and Poole had 14.  The Key difference is Curry.  Expect Curry to have to fight through lots of rough action in Game 5.  He is up for taking big deep shots… but his slight frame could be subject to harassment and manhandling.  PF Draymond Green is Hall of Fame bound but this is by far the worst postseason series he has ever had.  He has been ineffective.  His 2 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists was actually an improvement over Game 3… He also found himself glued to the bench during most of the 4th quarter… That is a rarity.  The Warriors will be on their home floor… The Warriors will be ready to rock the fans with a display of deep threes… but the Celtics will apply muscle.

This is by far one of the most entertaining Finals of recent years.  You get a feeling from both teams that they can break it open and simply win the whole thing.   The team that breaks it open last will win it all.

The Warriors are 66-35 on the season, 52-46-4 ATS.  Going 47-53-2 O/U.  They are 40-11 in home games.  They have a real advantage in the Chase Center because it is so impressively new and loud.

Boston is 12th in scoring with 111.8 ppg, 5th in rebounds with 46.1 per game, 11th in AST/TO ratio.  Defense is where they shine… They rank first in the NBA while holding opponents to 104 points per game.  They are 2nd in blocked shots with lots of size and length all over the starting five. They are 1st in defensive FG% percentage and in defensive 3 pt FG%.

The Warriors are 15th in scoring with 111 points per game, 7th in rebounds with 45.5 per game, and 12th in AST/TO ratio with 1.8.  The Warriors are no slouches on defense either, ranking 3rd while holding opponents to 105.5 ppg.  They are 2nd in FG% defense and 3rd in 3pt FG% defense.

Our prediction for Monday, June 13th is…..   Celtics 108 - Warriors 100

The Celtics have not lost twice in a row in all of the postseason and have been the winningest team in the NBA since New Year’s Day…. They will and should get this game.  Road game or not.
