NBA Standings

Nuggets: 30-24, 6th place Western Conference
Celtics: 31-25, 7th place Eastern Conference

An NBA matchup between the 6th place team in the West and the 7th place team in the East.  They have super similar records.. And although the West is a wildly better conference… the matchup is pretty even.  The NBA is going through a team lifting or destroying NBA trade deadline.  As of this minut the trade deadline is over… and these teams stood pat.  Sure, the Celtics had a deal… but it was sending out a minor player and the new player simply won’t be ready to play in this game. The landscape has completely changed over the last 3 hours.  Guys you have gotten used to in a certain jersey will be in a new jersey. Whether the talking heads declare one deal or another the winner… we won't know for a few years.  The Celtics picked up Daniel Theis for Dennis Shroeder and Enes Freedom. The Celtics also acquired Derrick White from the Spurs for Josh Ricxhardson and Romeo Langford.  Neither team got better in that deal.  And the last thing the aCeltics needed was another guard… he will only cause playing time trouble.  The real deal was for Myles Turner or Domantas Sabonis or whoever could play the front line… Can’t Daniel Thies?… NO.

The Denver Nuggets stood pat at the trade deadline.  They really have their hands tied.  They have the best player in the league if not a top-three player in Center Nikola Jokic.  The #2 on the roster SG Jamal Murray is our and will miss the whole season.  The #4 on the roster Michael Porter Jr is out and may miss the rest of his career.  The #4 on the roster SF/PF Aaron Gordon has been revealed as a joke.  In 7 seasons as an Orlando Magic and 1 season with the Denver Nuggets, Aaron Gordon has never caused a win.  HE MAY HAVE CAUSED A FEW LOSSES, BUT NEVER A WIN.  The results are in.  The Denver Nuggets have Jokic and nothing else of value right now.  There will be little moves here and there.. But for the next few seasons the Nuggets will wait to see if any of their own guys can get healthy.

The Boston Celtics have two solid stars.  SG Jaylen Brown and Sf Jayson Tatum.  They combine for 50 PPG.  That alone should tell them that nothing is worth anything other than getting these guys a BIG MAN to hold down the defense and take the pressure off on the offensive end.  They didn’t go in that direction however.  Instead the Celtics traded Josh Richardson and Romeo Langford for…. Another guard!  Why do we bother?.  The solution was and has always been right there.  The Celtics need to give up on draft picks and guys who can’t get too many playing minutes… and find a big man! C’mon already!  They have all the swing players scoring 25 ppg any team would ever need!

The Denver Nuggets have won 7 of their last 20 games.  They look and play like a winning team.  The problem will be the postseason when they lose HARD to an actual contender. I used to tell people not to sleep on Denver… now I’m completely drowsy.  They are 5-4-1 ATs over the last ten games.  The three teams they lost to were the New Orleans Pelicans, the Utah Jazz, and the Minnesota Timberwolves.  They are winners but they have no control over who will have a good game and beat them.  The three teams that did beat them had the three best defensive centers of the ten games… that means anyone who defends Jokic will win.  Period.  That is it.  That is how they get beaten.

The Boston Celtics are on a six game winning streak.  It has been beautiful.  It has not needed Romeo Langford, Enes Freedom, or Josh Richardson.  Hence the trade.  The Celtics have the necessary two-stars.  They have 50 ppg from two guys.  Pg Marcus Smart is rough around the edges as a starting point guard… but he is tops on defense.  So what they do not have is a capable Center or Power Forward… or maybe not capable enough?  They are 6-4 ATS over their last ten games.

Denver Nuggets vs Boston Celtics Prediction

Our prediction for Friday, February 11th is….  Celtics 118 - Nuggets 108

The Celtics will win and cover the spread.  Nikola Jokic is great, but he doesn’t have enough help to overcome two 25 ppg scorers.
