Hurricanes - Coyotes preview, prediction and analysis

The Carolina Hurricanes will be playing the Arizona Coyotes on Friday, March 3 in Tempe, Arizona.

The Carolina Hurricanes lost against the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday, March 1 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with a score of 3-2. The Carolina Hurricanes currently rank 1st in the Metropolitan Division.

Martin Necas and Jordan Staal scored, and Frederik Andersen made 17 saves for Carolina (39-12-8), which has lost two straight.

"We let [Eichel] alone a couple of times. He's not going to miss," Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "We had a great third period. We did everything we had to do to get back in there. Unfortunately, we went to sleep for a second, then it's in the back of your net. We had a good start to the game. Little lull in the second, we didn't play our game that well. We made a couple of errors. We gave their best player a breakaway. All in all, I loved how we came back, we just had that one mental error in the third that cost us."

Jack Eichel gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead at 5:11 of the second period, taking a pass from William Carrier and scoring high glove side from above the right circle. Necas tied it 1-1 at 13:02. He skated from end-to-end down the left wing, cut to the right while putting the puck under William Karlsson's stick, and scored glove side on Hill.

Eichel then made it 2-1 at 18:51, beating Andersen five-hole on a breakaway. Staal tied it 2-2 at 12:44 of the third period with a redirection of Brent Burns' point shot, but Reilly Smith gave the Golden Knights a 3-2 lead at 16:18 when he finished a backdoor pass from Michael Amadio.

The Carolina Hurricanes have won seven of their last 10 games.

The Arizona Coyotes lost against the Dallas Stars on Wednesday, March 1 at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas with a score of 4-2. The Arizona Coyotes currently rank 7th in the Central Division.

Barrett Hayton and Clayton Keller scored, Juuso Valimaki had two assists, and Connor Ingram made 37 saves for the Coyotes (21-31-9), who earlier Wednesday traded defenseman Jakob Chychrun to the Ottawa Senators and defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Arizona defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 at home Tuesday.

"We worked really hard," Coyotes coach Andre Tourigny told the Coyotes website. "The guys competed, they never quit. I'm really proud of that, there's no doubt about it."

Hayton gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead at 10:28 of the first on a rebound from the slot. Keller made it 2-0 on the power play at 13:47 with Hayton screening Oettinger in the slot.

"I thought we had a good push there in the first, and kind of got away from it in the second," Keller told the Coyotes website. "They're a very good team. They're fast. They always seem to know where each other are. They throw a lot of pucks at the net and make it tough in our defensive zone."

Roope Hintz cut it to 2-1 at 18:43 of the first period, scoring from his knees at the bottom of the left face-off circle. Tyler Seguin tied it 2-2 on the power play at 1:50 of the second period with a one-timer from the left circle.

Dallas scored two more goals with a final score of 4-2.

The Arizona Coyotes have won four of their last 10 games.
