Auburn - Texas A&M preview and analysis

Last week
Auburn: won 31-20 vs. Ole Miss on Saturday
Texas A&M: Off (won 44-14 vs. South Carolina on Oct. 23)

The Texas A&M Aggies will try to push their winning streak to four games when they host the Auburn Tigers in a crucial top-15 matchup in the SEC on Saturday.

The Aggies are coming off their bye week and have generated a ton of momentum since their upset of the Alabama Crimson Tide back on Oct. 9. Texas A&M followed that with a three-touchdown win at the Missouri Tigers, and then a 30-point triumph over the South Carolina Gamecocks at home.

"To lose two games like that and come back against the stretch we had, I'm very proud of them," coach Jimbo Fisher said.

The Aggies had a tremendous running attack led by Devon Achane’s game-high 154 yards and  a touchdown, as well as 102 yards and a score for leading rusher Isaiah Spiller. Zach Calzada threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns while completing only 50 percent of his passes.

Calzada continues to be a steady hand for Texas A&M, but last week was an indication that he doesn’t need to do everything in this offense. Achane and Spiller will need to be great against a stout Auburn run defense that only allows 125 yards per game.

The Tigers have won four of five with that loss to the Georgia Bulldogs sandwiched in between. Auburn is coming off an 11-point upset win against the Ole Miss Rebels. Auburn’s defense held Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral was held to 289 yards and just one interception. Meanwhile, Bo Nix threw for 276 yards and a touchdown.

“It was a huge statement game,” Nix said. “Beating a Top 10 team at home, there’s just nothing like it.”

Tank Bigsby also ran for 140 yards and a touchdown, which sets this week up for a major battle of the running backs.

Prediction

This is going to be one of the games of the weekend, and I think the home crowd is going to make this an interesting one. A&M has been on fire, and if that duo can keep Calzada mistake free, A&M will hang on for the win. Texas A&M by 5
